Children & Young Persons Advisory Group

Children’s & Young People’s Advisory Group

Working with the Coordinating Centre in Liverpool, and the West Midlands MCRN, the TLCRN have joined a pilot scheme to established a children’s & young persons advisory group for ages 8-16years.   Here in the Trent region we have recruited Young People from the Weight Active Focus Group, ‘LIVE SMART’ which has been running since October 2008. We have also recruited from the hospital based Youth Services.   This advisory group they will help doctors, to establish good practice guidelines on young people’s participation in medicines for research.

What will they do?

Until the end of the project in 2011, they will need to:

  • Come to at least four out of the six meetings planned

·        Get actively involved in meetings and other activities organised by the MCRN

·        Help researchers with their projects

·        Tell other young people what researchers are finding out (through summaries and a website which the groups will develop)

·        Present at MCRN related conferences to highlight the work of the young peoples group

·        Do your own research project within the group

·

What will they get out of it?

      ·     Do something different and make a difference!

      ·       Meet new people
      ·        Get an accredited certificate

·        Looks good on their CV!

·

Have fun!

The meetings will be informal and hopefully fun!  Their views and opinions will help influence very important decisions made within the TLCRN Medicines for Children Research Network.
