How we work

We work closely with health care professionals who want to carry out studies, by reducing both the set-up times and the administrative burden, and by maximising recruitment.

Our Children’s Clinical Research Officers who are based in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Sheffield work in acute hospitals and District General Hospitals throughout the Trent region. They are fully trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Data Protection and the Human Tissue Act. Their role is to support many phases of clinical studies, including:

•    organising finances and contracts,
•    completing the regulatory approvals,
•    screening and recruiting patients,
•    managing data,
•    completing close down procedures,
•    disseminating findings.

Our involvement with running feasibility studies for pharmaceutical companies is increasing. These companies cannot recruit children and young people directly, as they can recruit adults. We bridge the gap between companies and the NHS by:

•    identifying Principal Investigators within NHS hospitals,
•    estimating the numbers of patients for recruitment,
•    protecting confidentiality,
•    ensuring deadlines are met.

We actively encourage and support training for all staff who are involved in research, by running in-house training and offering UKCRN courses.

We host open days, road shows, focus groups …
