What we do

We support local researchers and their teams who are running MCRN adopted clinical studies into new or existing treatments in children aged 0 19 years for all clinical specialties. The support varies with each study, and depends upon what is agreed with the MCRN Coordinating Centre in Liverpool. We aim to ensure that the adopted studies are performed efficiently and to the highest standards within NHS hospitals and elsewhere.

We support trials investigating different formulations, and we support other more qualitative studies. Trials of different formulations might be about finding the right way of giving medicines to children – for example, as liquids rather than as tablets. Qualitative studies might be about finding how different treatments affect the children’s or families’ quality of life – for example, how many school days are spent having physiotherapy, requiring parents to take time off work.

We encourage children, their parents and other carers to get involved in clinical research.
